Hey everyone,

Recently we were graced with a two hour long interview with some of Deadhaus' developers and Exclusively Games. This is an interview I've been looking forward to watching since a few months ago, and it did not disappoint.

Since the interview is far too long, I'll refrain from commenting on the finer points and will get straight to the breakdown of the new information. There is plenty of juicy content being detailed and lots of interesting things that (might) come to the game one day, in future expansions/updates.

Without further ado, here is the interview and what I believe to be its greatest highlights:

02:09 | 1:06:36 - Beyond the classes there are also four different "races" or "sub-species", which define how the undead in particular became undead. They are: Returned, Composed, Burdened, and Risen.
Composed means "created from other things." Returned is "fusing of the soul to a dead being." Burdened are "affected by certain afflictions, or curses." Risen are "risen from their own accord from sheer will."

5:25 - The Vampire uses "Blood Magic". It spends its own blood to cast spells and activating its skills.

5:50 - The Vampire can shapeshift to other creatures besides the "Werebat", the creature we've seen so far in the gameplay demo.

7:39 - The Vampire can transform into a "Dracolich", a form that Denis considers to be more devastating in the battlefield than the Werebat itself.

10:08 - As a Vampire, you can choose to specialize in either one of the realms: Physical, Magickal, and Essential. They confirmed as a sort of "talent tree specialization."

11:24 - Different classes have different ways of interacting with specific weapons. You'll get different movesets by using different weapons. They mentioned the game should have at least 5 weapon categories that can be used by multiple classes. Two-handed swords, scimitars, axes, spears and crossbows were mentioned as possible weapons. The way you use the weapons may also vary according to what sort of realm you chose to specialize in.

14:31 - The Revenant was risen from hatred. His mana type is Rage itself and his abilities focus on the build-up of that emotion. He's also referenced as an Undead of the Risen sub-species later on.

15:49 - New Revenant skill showcased.

18:50 - They specify the game is in a prototype fase right now. That's when you'd typically see other games textureless with very blocky character models stiffly sliding around the map in other games.

20:48 - They plan on releasing information fairly frequently over time through the development. :D

23:29 - There will be "height mechanics". Some characters will be able to float or fly. The Werebat form of the Vampire will be able to fly.

25:58 - The Banshee's mana type (or at least its main method of doing combat) is Fear. Banshee's are sort of status effect casters with a mix of fast, deceptive combat. It's referred as a "battlefield controller".

27:50 - There are male Banshees. For those who don't know, classes are not gender-locked.

27:58 - The Revenant, despite being tanky, is not necessarily the best tank for all situations as there will be other classes that can tank, given the right direction.

30:02 - Some classes will be able to change their primary state of being into another through specialization. It is a definitive choice.

31:43 - We hear more about the Ghoul. His mana type is Gore. He can eat different body parts to gain various bonuses. He can eat the meat of undead as well as recently dead, or even living in some instances. He can get fat. Story-wise, eating a brain will allow you to read someone's minds, and allow you to gain magickal power gameplay-wise. Eating their heart will give you more health. You become bigger and heavier as you eat. Your food determines your gameplay capabilities. He will also move differently than all other classes talked about so far (Vampire, Revenant, Banshee). You can get sick from eating the wrong kind of food. The value of the food is determined by its freshness.

31:46 - First Ghoul artwork showcased.

35:50 - Vampires can't drink dead blood. You can do it, and it will hurt you if you do it.

37:08 - The Wraith has the background of a more noble or warrior caste than most ghosts. They also focus on torture. The Wraith is Ethereal in its primary state. Its main mana type seems to be Pain. It is a status effect caster.

44:32 - The Liche will have different play styles, as with most classes, according to how you specialize yourself. You can be a support character, a "nuker" (someone who comes in and deals a tremendous amount of damage in a short amount of time or with a single ability), etc.

45:58 - The game is focusing on the Gothic mythology of Undead, but that might change in the future.

48:00 - There will be a Hardcore mode.

48:10 - Taking your character to True Death may take a while, and only some enemies will know how to do that.

49:24 - If you die, your allied Ghoul may eat your body to gain certain benefits. That is not something they thought of before, but in the way the game is meant to be built that would be possible.

50:46 | 1:38:47 - Lore will have a considerable effect in gameplay. For instance, Vampires can't go through salt-covered entrances, or cross running water. Silver and led are dangerous to you. They can't go over running water, sunlight affects their powers. Ghouls are not affected by anything of the sort.

54:04 - "Let's take a genre, say Legacy of Kain, make it multiplayer, keep it narrative-based, and let's do something for today's gamers. That's what we're trying to do with Deadhaus Sonata."

1:00:53 - We get to know more about the Wight. It's a "military undead". It will have the most power in the area of the soul, sentient weapons and artifacts. It will have the most control over them, and will be able to customize them further.

1:03:12 - There will be summoners in the game. They will be sub-archetypes (class specializations).

1:05:36 - There is an empire of humans in the game, but they are not the most powerful faction nor the main enemy.

1:12:38 - There will be more houses than just Deadhaus of creatures that are not even undead, something planned for a long time after release. One of them is Xenohaus, made up of creatures of "chaos." They should be quite different from everything we'll see in Deadhaus.

1:15:05 - Denis talks about his vision for PVP. PVP should be between different houses, so no Deadhaus vs. Deadhaus as far as we can tell.

1:16:12 - There will be a house of the mind (I'll call it Mindhaus).

1:19:35 - A lot of systems will overlap in the game. There will be macro conditions that will change the game's setting, such as Elder Gods.

1:20:50 - Phil mentions all the plans they have span over 10 years of game development. A lot of the mentioned aspects won't be coming for a really long time.

1:22:15 - Another house is Gigahaus, a house of giants which the players can play as.

1:26:00 - Deadhaus will have a very bleak world, without necessarily happy moments.

1:35:38 - There will be different types of humans, including civilians.

1:36:54 - Sometimes you'll fight hordes of enemies, sometimes very powerful entities, but there will also be narrative developments to it all. Deadhaus may end up being like a narrative RPG game where Apocalypse is the Game Master and the players are the players, from what they are saying here.

1:39:25 - Sunlight will only weaken Vampires instead of burning them. There is a day/night cycle in the game. Some classes will be able to change the environment to some extent and help the Vampire on this.

1:40:24 - Initially you'll be able to play with 5 other players (6 in total at a time), but that might change (the limit might increase) in the future. You can also play the whole game by yourself if you prefer.

1:45:18 - Deadhaus is not the most powerful house in the game.

1:47:21 <-> 1:48:27 - Spoilers to Eternal Darkness.

These are what I've identified as being all the new information provided on this interview. What was your favorite pointer?

We may not be able to do pvp but I do hope there are rivalries between the classes. Perhaps they could each be working to out do one another in some other way, conquering the most territory like in For Honor or the highest number of levels accrued by all those within each class.

Something tells me they will touch a lot on that in the narrative aspect of the game. Let's wait and see. They mentioned releasing more information in this regard (and how the community will interact with it) in the next couple of months.

I am really curios about the phylactery aspect, how it works and what not. I've got one idea bouncing around my head, but I get the feeling it would only be considered in hardcore mode.

This is using the Liche as an example.

You awaken a liche, holding the phylactery you created prior to the ritual that reanimated you into the living dead. The phylactery is a piece of you and takes however much of a portion from the experience you gain as it grows with you, meaning you could neglect leveling it entirely in favor of other priorities. Whenever your body and soul does perish you are restored through the phylactery from wherever you have left it on your person, within the safety of the deadhaus capital city, or the hiding place you hope none shall discover between either of them. The level the phylactery has when it restores you is the level you shall be brought back as. You quickly realize that it is possible to dissolve the phylactery and directing all of the stored experience elsewhere, but in doing so you are vulnerable to true death if ever your body and soul perish afterwards. If your phylactery is destroyed then all that it contains is lost to the void. If destroyed or dissolved, the phylactery can be remade; but it starts off new at the same level as when you first rose as a liche.
